Lieutenant Sheba was a Viper pilot attached to Pegasus. The daughter of Commander Cain, she was in charge of its Viper squadron.

Biography[]

During the Thousand Yahren War, Sheba served the Colonial Fleet as a Viper pilot, rising up to the rank of Captain. In the closing yahrens of the war, she was a squadron leader on board Pegasus, which was crewed by her father, Commander Cain. In spite of their blood relation, the two worked well together in the exception of Cain's romantic interests in Cassiopeia, a socialator. Two yahrens before the end of the war, Pegasus fought in the devastating Battle of Molecay, which left the battlestar fleeing into deep space and abandoning the Twelve Colonies of Man. With Pegasus far from supply ships, Sheba's chief duties were to coordinate interception of Cylon patrols and the raiding of mining and storage facilities.[1]

Close to Gamoray, Sheba's patrol moved close to that of Blue Squadron, which confirmed another battlestar, Galactica, was also stranded in deep space nearby. The two Vipers, crewed by Cpt. Apollo and Lt. Starbuck, were escorted to Pegasus and later returned to Galactica when its position was determined. The welcome reception was warm, save the revelation that Cassiopeia was on board. Soon the Pegasus crew were apprised of the true situation Galactica was in - that the colonies were destroyed and that the refugee fleet in its protection was now at risk of destruction owing to a severe fuel shortage. Efforts to acclimate to the situation however were frayed, as the two crews and their COs held opposing values on whether to leave the fleet behind to raid Gamoray or simply continue more by siphoning Pegasus' fuel; the crew of Pegasus soon mutinied against the more senior Cmdr. Adama, with Sheba taking the side of her father. The mutiny itself was brief, being ended by the unexpected arrival of a Basestar, and the two crews were forced to work together regardless.[1]

Ahead of a combined battlestar offensive, Sheba was picked for a covert mission to sabotage the planetary control centre. Upon the mission's success, the planet was quickly taken by the colonials and siphoned of its tylium. With the mission taking a casualty, the team left on a Shuttle headed to Pegasus, which was taking Cylon fire. Rather than stay to protect the fleet, Cain made plans to go deeper in and engage three Basestars. This manoeuvre led to Sheba herself being seriously wounded, at which point Cain ordered all injured personnel be evacuated to Galactica. Though Sheba survived the Shuttle journey back to Galactica, Pegasus and her father disappeared in the fight, though it was presumed they had survived and returned to their piracy. From then on, Sheba and the rest of Silver Spar Squadron stranded in the fleet were officially transferred to Galactica.[2]

Further notes[]

There was much talk about Sheba appearing in the 2004 reimagined series during production of Season 2. This was ultimately rejected on the grounds an Apollo love-interest being Pegasus' CAG who was also its CO's child felt contrived.[3]
