Felix Gaeta

Lieutenant Felix Gaeta was a skilled and capable officer in the Colonial Fleet. He served as William Adama's Senior Officer of the Watch aboard Galactica for three years before the Cylon attack on the Twelve Colonies. Gaeta was studying genetics before the attack and planned to obtain a degree through the military extension program^[1].

Gaeta attention to detail and efficient, is what led Adama to rely heavily on him as a member of Galactica's senior crew, despite his junior rank and relative youth. In addition to his duties as a Tactical Officer, Gaeta also performed navigational functions, calculated and initiated jumps, and managed the ship's FTL drive^[2]. He also managed the various primary computer systems used on the battlestar.

Following the fleet's discovery and abandonment of Earth, and the controversial decision to install Cylon FTL technology on all ships in the fleet, Gaeta used his central role in CIC to lead a mutiny aboard Galactica. In collaboration with Vice President Tom Zarek, he staged a coup d'etat against Laura Roslin's presidency. Zarek promoted Gaeta to Commander and commanding officer of Galactica, a position he held briefly until Adama regained control of the ship. As a result of his involvement in the coup, Gaeta was executed by firing squad^[3].
