The Cylon War was a conflict between the Humans of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol and the Cylons, automated lifeforms that they had created to act as laborers and workers. A bloody struggle ended in an armistice and the Cyclons heading off to seek a world of their own.
The war experienced a forty-plus-year hiatus, during which humans sent annual representatives to a remote space station for an agreed "state of affairs" briefing with a Cylon counterpart. The Cylons. however, ignored this element of the peace treaty. That is, until they sent Number Six to ensure the Colonial officer, in this case Boxey's father, was in place when they symbolically reignited the conflict by blowing up the station.
